7 Ways to Fix Vaper’s Tongue

You love vaping but you get annoyed by vaper’s tongue. It’s a common problem. But have no fear! We have some easy ways to fix vaper’s tongue that will get your vaping experience back to normal in no time.

What is Vaper’s Tongue?

Maybe you have no idea what we’re talking about. So let’s start with a definition: what is vaper’s tongue? This is a phenomenon where you eventually can no longer taste your e-juice. You may be using your favorite e-juice like always, but it doesn’t have the same satisfaction as it used to and you can barely detect the specific taste.

You are actually experiencing a common phenomenon that people who don’t even vape also experience. It’s known as olfactory fatigue. Olfactory fatigue refers to any time when you get so used to a scent that you can longer detect it. For example, maybe your friends associate your home with a particular scent, but you don’t think it has a scent at all. This is a type of olfactory fatigue.

You probably know that your sense of smell and taste are powerfully connected. Your sense of smell makes up about 70% of the perceived flavor of a food or, in this case, e-juice. If you can’t smell something, you’re not going to be able to taste it anymore.

7 ways to Fix Vaper’s Tongue

So now that you know what vaper’s tongue is, it’s time to focus on solutions! Try these easy remedies.

1.      Experiment with E-Juice Flavors

If you’re a vaper of habit, always using the same e-juice when you pick up your vape, you’re going to get used to that particular flavor. The flavor that you used to crave may just not show up the way that it used to. Experiment with some flavors to move past olfactory fatigue and wake your taste buds up. You may even discover a new favorite e-juice!

You could also try a cooling flavor such as menthol. Because these don’t really have a strong taste or smell, they may help reset your taste buds. After using menthol for a while, try switching back to your old favorite and see if you can detect the flavor more now.

2.      Take a Vape Break from Flavors

You might also consider vaping with flavorless e-juices for a while. The idea of vaping without a flavor can be unappealing to a lot of vape users, but if it means you get over your vaper’s tongue, that’s a sacrifice you’re hopefully willing to take in the short term. The experience is similar to taking a break from vaping altogether (which can also help remedy vaper’s tongue) but it allows you to still vape. If you’re having a hard time finding unflavored vape juice, visit a DIY shop. You’ll also quickly discover this kind of vape juice is cheaper than the flavored alternatives.

3.      Rinse Your Nose

If you have an allergy or you’ve recently had an infection, you may have lost your sense of smell. This can give you the illusion of having vaper’s tongue. Try giving your nose the special attention it deserves. Dissolve salt in warm water then dip a cotton swab into the solution. Rub it around your nose. Do this several times and make cleaning out your nose a habit. This should help restore your lost sense of smell which should help you regain your sense of taste.

4.      Improve Your Oral Hygiene

The idea of brushing your tongue the way you brush your teeth may sound a little silly at first. But it could actually be the key to unlocking taste when you’re experiencing vaper’s tongue. When you brush your teeth, make sure you give your tongue a scrub for good measure. You could even buy a dedicated tongue scraper to get rid of that nasty film that builds up on your tongue.

Improving your oral hygiene as a whole can go a long way to helping restore your sense of taste when you’re vaping. That means flossing to keep your gums healthy and brushing your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day. Also, use mouthwash to further improve gum health and protect your mouth from infection.

5.      Keep Yourself Hydrated

Far too many people are dehydrated, opting for coffee and soda instead of water. Drinking plenty of water each day and remaining hydrated may help you coax your sense of taste back to life and get rid of your vaper’s tongue. You should also avoid beverages that can dehydrate you such as coffee and alcohol. While you don’t need to remove them from your lifestyle altogether, limiting your intake may help you when you’re figuring out how to fix vaper’s tongue.

6.      Improve Oral Hydration

Dry mouth is the enemy when you want a flavorful vaping experience. Just as you want to be hydrated in general, it’s important to keep your mouth in particular hydrated. A lot of medications have dry mouth as a side effect, but there are also a number of remedies that can help you fix it. Something like Biotène should restore hydration to your mouth. You should be able to find it in the form of a toothpaste, gel, mouthwash, or spray.

7.      Excite Your Senses

Exciting your sense of taste or smell may are more ways to fix vaper’s tongue by helping reset your senses. You can try eating especially strong-tasting items like sucking on citrus fruit or swallowing a spoonful of honey. The vinegary flavor of a pickle may also be a great option! Any of these may be able to cleanse your palate so you can taste your e-juice flavor more clearly. If one doesn’t work, just keep trying strong flavors.

In the same way that mixing up different flavors can help some people get over vaper’s tongue so can trying different scents. Strong coffee and even strong perfumes are the perfect things to sniff!
